BREASTFEEDING CONSULTING

BABY FRIENDLY HOSPITAL

The Baby-friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) was launched by WHO and UNICEF in 1991, following the Innocenti Declaration of 1990. The initiative is a global effort to implement practices that protect, promote and support breastfeeding.

Breast milk is the natural first food for babies, it provides all the energy and nutrients that the infant needs for the first months of life, and it continues to provide up to half or more of a child’s nutritional needs during the second half of the first year, and up to one-third during the second year of life.

Review of evidence has shown that, on a population basis, exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months is the optimal way of feeding infants. Thereafter infants should receive complementary foods with continued breastfeeding up to 2 years of age or beyond.

Our hospital is a baby friendly hospital.

Pregnant women who are admitted to our hospital are given "Mother's milk and breastfeeding" training from the 32nd week since.

The mother and baby stay together, unless medical necessity

Unless medical necessity, the baby is breastfed within half an hour/one hour after birth.

The baby should be breastfed whenever she/he wants.

Bottles and pacifiers are not used. In medical necessities, the baby is fed with a feeding container or spoon.

There are breastfeeding rooms in our center.

The use of posters, banners and samples related to food advertising is not permitted.

Breastfeeding policy, breast milk and breastfeeding posters and posters are displayed in our hospital.

Visual breast milk and breastfeeding brochures are presented to mothers during training.

Multiple and individual training is provided in the training room and patient rooms.

Breast milk is provided with milking pumps for infants in the newborn intensive care unit and mothers are informed about the milking, storage and transfer of milk.

After the mother and the baby are discharged, support is continued by sharing the addresses that can be contacted to ensure the continuity of breastfeeding.
