LITHOTRIPSY AND URODYNAMICS UNIT

The Lithotripsy Unit: is located in the 2nd Floor Urology Polyclinic (400 beds).

Our  Lithotripsy Unit is equipped with a high tech lithotripter, manufactured by SIEMENS(Modularis Variostar Lithotripter) - a pioneer in this field, which can treat renal, ureter and urinary bladder lithiasis with exceptional precision.  ESWL (extracorporal shock wave lithotripsy) is used to send high-frequency sound waves from an external source for  breaking the kidney stones into smaller pieces and causing them to fall out the urinary tract. Calculi detection can be performed either radiographically or ultrasonographically, or even a combination of both. The frequency and energy of shock waves are regulated on the basis of the density and location of the calculus. The effectiveness can reach levels as high as 90% thanks to the fact that the shock beam is precisely directed onto the calculus. Thanks to the advanced technology of this medical device, all the energy centered on the calculus increases, resulting in more efficient fragmentation of the calculus. This contributes largely to the erosion and fragmentation of the calculus into tiny pieces, which are removed through the process of urination without affecting the adjacent fibers. Throughout lithotripsy, the patient can view the entire procedure through a monitor.

Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL); PNL is applied when a large stone is located inside the kidney (staghorn calculi)

Urodynamics Unit

Our Urodynamics  Unit is on the 2nd Floor inside the Urology Outpatient Clinic (400 beds).

Urodynamy;  is the process of evaluating  the function of the lower urinary tract (ureters, bladder and the urethra).

The Urodynamics Unit offers a full range of urodynamic testing and treatment for people suffering from urinary incontinence or difficulty passing urine; frequency, urgency, incomplete bladder emptying, night time urinating etc.

The comprehensive testing that is carried out in the unit examines the source of the problem and to manage the most appropriate  treatment, offers counsel to other departments like Obstetrics and gyneacology, orthopedics, neurology and others if needed.
