BREASTFEEDING AND RELACTATION OUTPATIENT CLINIC

As Adıyaman Training and Research Hospital, our objective is to ensure that newborn infants receive breast milk, thereby supporting the development of confident and healthy generations. Continuity of breastfeeding is better achieved when mothers receive breastfeeding support. During prenatal and postnatal periods (antenatal classes, breastfeeding counseling), mothers and expectant mothers are informed about the importance of breast milk, breastfeeding positions, the significance of skin-to-skin contact, breast problems (engorgement, mastitis, abscess), the harms of pacifier and bottle use, and for mothers of infants in the NICU, guidance is provided on expressing, storing, and transferring breast milk.

After mother–infant discharge, support continues by providing contact points to ensure the continuity of breastfeeding.

As a hospital, we support exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months and continuation with complementary foods up to at least 2 years and beyond.

RELACTATION CLINIC

Relactation is the process of resuming breastfeeding. It is applied to mothers who have paused breastfeeding and wish to breastfeed again, adoptive mothers, or mothers experiencing nipple rejection.

Mothers experiencing breastfeeding difficulties are consulted, and education providing solutions to identified problems is given. Mothers are invited back to the clinic until successful breastfeeding is achieved.
