Lithotripsy Unit

Adıyaman Training and Research Hospital Lithotripsy Unit provides services for the management of urinary tract stone disease using modern, safe, and non-surgical treatment methods. Our unit operates on the 2nd floor of A Block Main Service Building, within the Urology Outpatient Clinic.

Scope of Services
Extracorporeal Shockwave Lithotripsy (ESWL) is applied in the Lithotripsy Unit.
This method is a proven treatment approach that allows urinary tract stones to be fragmented by externally applied high-energy shock waves without the need for surgical intervention.

ESWL in Pediatric Patients
ESWL treatment is safely performed for pediatric patients in our Lithotripsy Unit.

  • Procedures are conducted under anesthesia for the comfort and safety of pediatric patients.

  • Anesthesia is administered following assessment by the Anesthesia Department.

  • ESWL is an effective method in treating pediatric urinary stones, reducing the need for surgical procedures.

Key Features of ESWL

  • The stone’s location is precisely determined using ultrasonography or fluoroscopy.

  • Focused shock waves are directed at the stone without any incision on the skin.

  • Stones are fragmented into smaller pieces, which are naturally expelled through urine.

  • The procedure lasts approximately 45 minutes and generally does not require anesthesia.

  • Multiple sessions may be planned if deemed necessary.

Treatment Advantages

  • Non-surgical and non-invasive method.

  • No hospital stay is required.

  • Allows rapid return to daily activities.

  • High success rate for kidney and ureteral stones.

  • Lower risk of complications compared to surgical methods.

Objective of Our Unit
The primary objective of the Lithotripsy Unit is to:

  • Utilize reliable, effective, and evidence-based methods in the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of urinary tract stone disease.

  • Provide healthcare services with high standards, prioritizing patient safety and satisfaction.
