9-Centimeter Brain Tumor Successfully Operated in Adıyaman
In Adıyaman, 67-year-old Suna Taşar, who had been followed for a brain tumor for approximately 12 years and had become bedridden due to progressively increasing weakness in her left arm and leg, underwent successful surgery to remove a 9-centimeter mass in her brain, regaining her health.
67-year-old Suna Taşar applied to Adıyaman Training and Research Hospital due to the brain tumor she had been monitored for approximately 12 years. The patient, who had been experiencing progressively increasing weakness in her left arm and leg for the past 7 years, had recently become bedridden.
Detailed examinations conducted by Operating Physician Dr. Ozan Yavuz Tüfek, at Adıyaman Training and Research Hospital, and his team, due to increasing headaches and deterioration of her neurological status, revealed an approximately 9-centimeter mass in the posterior part of the brain exerting significant pressure on the brainstem.
The patient underwent surgical intervention using the advanced technological facilities offered by modern medicine. During the operation, nerve pathways and vital centers were monitored in real-time with special systems, ensuring a safe surgery. Pathology results ed that the mass was an epidermoid tumor.
Before surgery, the patient’s left arm strength was at 1/5 and left leg strength at 1–2/5. In the early postoperative period, her strength improved significantly. She now has at least 4/5 strength in the left extremities. For a bedridden patient to reach this level in a short time was regarded by the health team as a “promising development.”
Operating Physician Dr. Ozan Yavuz Tüfek emphasized that this operation demonstrates that high-level neurosurgical interventions can be successfully performed in Adıyaman thanks to advanced technological infrastructure and an experienced healthcare team. It was noted that the patient’s physical therapy and rehabilitation process will continue within the hospital, with expectations of further functional improvement.
