Obesity, as in the rest of the world, is among the leading factors threatening public health in our country, and its prevalence is steadily increasing. According to the 2022 data released by the World Health Organization, Turkey ranks first in Europe in terms of obesity prevalence.
Obesity emerges as a significant public health issue, affecting not only type 2 diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, depression, and similar conditions, but also negatively impacting social life. In order to implement an effective and sustainable approach to obesity treatment, Obesity Units are being expanded throughout the country.
At our hospital’s newly established Obesity Unit, the responsible Specialist Physician, dietitian, psychologist, physiotherapist, and nurse actively serve. Individuals with a body mass index of 30 kg/m² or higher can apply to the Obesity Unit.
A crucial component of obesity treatment is therapeutic patient education. Individuals are followed and treated by a multidisciplinary team for one year, with individual or group training sessions provided. These educational activities enhance patient compliance and increase the success rate through active participation in treatment. The objective is to achieve permanent lifestyle changes. Our hospital’s Obesity Unit provides preventive and therapeutic health services through a holistic approach.
The Obesity Unit operates on the ground floor of the A Block Main Service Building.
